3.6 Chart Toolbar

The chart toolbar is used to control and customize the charts.  By default, the chart toolbar is located on top of the Home chart, the Time History chart, the Histogram chart, the Damage Ratio chart, and the Fatigue Curve chart.  The toolbar can be relocated to the bottom, left or right of the chart by dragging the head of the toolbar.

 

The chart toolbar as shown below is in horizontal position.  The dotted line on the left is the head of the toolbar.  Click and hold the head to drag the toolbar.

 

 

3.6.1 Zoom 

 

Click Zoom button to activate the zooming functionality in the chart area. 

 

To zoom window, click in the chart area and drag the rectangular frame to form a zooming window.  Release the mouse to display the content in the window.

 

To pan, depress the mouse wheel and drag the mouse.

 

To zoom in in vertical direction, press and hold  key, roll the mouse wheel backward (or press  key).

 

To zoom out in vertical direction, press and hold  key, roll the mouse wheel forward (or press  key).

 

To zoom in in horizontal direction, press and hold  key, roll the mouse wheel backward (or press  key).

 

To zoom out in horizontal direction, press and hold  key, roll the mouse wheel forward (or press  key).

 

At anytime, right-click in the chart area to restore the chart to its original scale.

 

3.6.2 Print Chart

 

Clicking Print Chart button will bring out the Print window.  Select printer from the list and choose settings.  Click Print button to send the chart to printer or a file.

 

 

3.6.3 Export

 

Click Export button to save the chart as a PDF file.  In the Export File Name dialog box, enter a PDF file name, then click Save button.

 

 

3.6.4 Styles

 

Click Styles button on the toolbar.  The Custom Chart dialog box displays.

 

 

Depending on type of chart to be customized, the items in the dialog box vary.

 

To change the color of an item, click the color square button, the Select Background Color or Select Line Color dialog box displays.  Pick the desired color and click OK button to finish.

 

 

To change the width of a curve, click Width drop-down menu, and choose a line width ranging from 1 pt to 5 pt.

 

To change the line style, click Dash Type drop-down menu, and choose Solid, Dash, Dot, Dash Dot, or Dash Dot Dot.

 

Click Reset to colored default button to reset default setting in colored scheme.

 

Click Reset to black and white default button to reset default setting in black and white scheme.

 

3.6.5 Node/Element

 

Clicking the Node button brings out the node number dialog box.  Enter the node number to be plotted in the chart area.  Click OK to close the window.

 

 

If Element stresses were chosen as described in 5.1 Data Entry and Project Setup, the Node button will be shown as Element button, and element number is to be entered in the dialog box.

 

If data are read from ANSYS .rst file, the node/element numbers are the same as these in ANSYS model.  If the data are manually inputted, the node/element numbers may be the numbers in some FEA software model, and the user may wish to identify the numbers in the charts; otherwise, enter a zero (0) as the node/element number, and the chart will not show node/element number.
