2.2.5 Tutorial 5 - EN 12952-3 Thermal Fatigue with ANSYS Result (.rst) File

This tutorial provides a step-by-step demonstration for EN 12952-3 fatigue analysis using Fatigue+ and ANSYS result (.rst) file.


A tube in a heat exchanger goes through a thermal loading process.  The process is defined as an event.  A fatigue analysis is required to determine number of such process event that the tube can survive.  The tube is EN 10216 seamless tube with material designation X10CrMoVNb9-1.  Wall thickness of the tube is 12 mm.  Surface condition of the tube is that peak-to-valley height Rz = 30 μm.


A transient thermal and structural analysis was done in ANSYS.  The name of the result file is file.rst.


Use EN 12952-3 code to calculate fatigue life of this tube.
